Twenty Five years ago Robert Hynes began his venture into residential drafting and started his Residential Drafting services company – Your Own Design.
“I had always wanted to become an architect, the whole buidling process has always intrigued me” , says Robert.
A retired engineer friend suggested I try drafting. “My First project was to design my Sister’s Home and the designing bug hit me!”
I quickly discovered that taking someones hopes and dreams from the ground up is not only a challenge I was more than willing to tackle , but a complete joy to see the projects come to fruition. I began researching and taking design courses to take my passion from a hobby and turn it into a full time design business. Your Own Design is not merely a name , but a motto- Each project is as individual as the client that we are drafting for.
Due to demand five years ago I expanded the business, adding my son Mitchell Hynes as another licensed designer . “Growing up we always watched Dad design homes and additions , I loved to visit the sites with him to see the plans being built , being in the construction industry myself it was only a natural fit to combine my field knowledge with Dads design knowledge and I proudly began working full time for my father as a designer.
“As they always say two heads are better than one!“ says Bob – “While we both have the same goals in mind – alot of our design ideas are different – which in turn provides our customers with optimum variety to encompass their visions from concept to reality “.
Bob also saw the need to offer his clients “one Stop” design services. – “I am a licensed HVAC designer (Heating Ventilation and Cooling). Any plan we produce must also have updated HVAC plans and it only seemed suiting that Your Own Design offer this service as well. Therefore our clients do not have to go from place to place to have what they require to get proper permits to begin their Build. It is also far more efficient to design a project with the heating and ventilation in mind as this can really change where walls , beams, and openings are placed, thus saving time and money for our clients.”
Many clients come to me with a renovation under way finding out they require the HVAC drawing by a licensed designer, I do offer this service as well.
Over the past twenty five years it has been a true pleasure to work with so many wonderful people, each with their own ideas and dreams. Designing their concepts into a plan that best suits their needs and desires, lot and of course budget -creating a home or renovation they can enjoy for years to come.
